Grand Reopening

Last November, our community was hit with a tragedy: a gas explosion that damaged many of our beloved small businesses. Our town was heartbroken to see so many of our small businesses broken, but was uplifted by the many people who immediately jumped in to begin fixing the damage. Since then, we’ve been working together to rebuild our shops, and help support each other through the process. After months of hard work, we’re ready to officially reopen our beautiful downtown!

We’d love for you all to join us for our grand reopening of downtown Canton, Saturday, May 13th, in Jones Park! Festivities start at 10 a.m.! We’ll have a ceremonial ribbon cutting, presentations and recognition for those who helped in the aftermath, special discounts at downtown businesses, free trolley rides, music, and much more! We’ll also be announcing our very lucky Canton Cash winners. Enjoy coupons to use throughout the day at businesses and restaurants.

We hope you come join Crawford’s Home Furnishings, along with our fellow local businesses, to help celebrate and recognize all the hard work, time, and money that organizations, individuals, and fellow businesses put into bringing our downtown back to life. Without you, the aftermath would have been harder to get through.

The Advantages of Quartz vs. Granite Counter Tops

Deciding on counter tops for any room in your home can be a tough decision, and there are many new materials out there for you to consider.  But one that stands out above the rest is quartz.  Quartz is a natural mineral, plus it is very hard, giving it great durability.  This versatile stone is a beautiful addition to your kitchen or bathroom, and there are many positive aspects to consider when comparing it to granite counter tops.

Cost

When comparing quartz to granite, you’ll find a significant difference in price. Granite can be sourced from many different places around the world, including Brazil and China. Although granite is quite beautiful, shipping it in from exotic places can be quite expensive. Because quartz can be manufactured, the price per square foot will help you stay within budget, all while getting the look and feel of granite.

Appearance

Many quartz counter tops are created by combining about 95% natural quartz, and a small amount of resin and pigment. This means that not only do you receive quality counter tops in your home, but you also get a wide variety of styles and colors to choose from! No matter what room you’re adding this beautiful stone to, you’re sure to find a texture, color, and pattern that fits your exact style.

Hygiene & Maintenance

Another aspect of quartz that many people love, is the fact that it in non-porous. Stone like marble and granite have tiny pockets and channels, creating the perfect environment for bacteria growth and staining. In order to prevent this, marble and granite need to be sealed regularly. Quartz is a non-porous material, meaning you don’t have to worry about bacteria on your counter, and no opportunity for a spilt glass of wine to stain your counter. Quartz never requires sealing, and because it’s a non-porous material, works perfectly in your kitchen for food preparation.

Strength

Quartz is a naturally hard material, and when it’s combined with a small amount of resin, creates an extremely hard stone, and much stronger than granite or marble. A quartz slab is the same working thickness, and is process and cut using the same machines and equipment as granite or marble.
If quartz counter tops sounds like a perfect fit for your home, contact Crawford’s Home Furnishings for more information on how we can help you find the perfect quartz for you.

Get to Know Hunter Douglas Window Treatments

While the utilitarian purpose of a window treatment is to create privacy within your home, there are far more reasons to be choosy about what type of product you place over your windows. The treatment you select should make a statement about your personal sense of style without compromising on functionality and energy efficiency. Hunter Douglas window treatments are well-known for their innovative style and distinctive design options. In addition, they take into consideration energy savings, ease of use, and safety.

Privacy and Light control

Hunter Douglas window treatments are among the best in providing privacy and light control when compared to other window coverings. Whether you require complete darkness, as might be the case in a bedroom or television area, or desire a window treatment with the opacity to provide filtered light, Hunter Douglas has a design to meet your needs. With products to diffuse light or redirect the way sun enters the home, they have something to meet your specific lighting requirements. Additionally, their unique top down, bottom up products provide specialized privacy as well as light control.

Cost savings

Nearly one quarter of a home’s energy losses can be attributed to its windows. During the colder months, warm air escapes through the windows, while in the summer months they bring excess heat into your home. Energy efficient window treatments, like Hunter Douglas’ Duette Honeycomb Shades, offer much needed insulation to keep warm air in during the winter and out during the summer.

Unique design features

One way the Hunter Douglas is different from other window treatments is their innovative design options and technology. Their unique UltraGlide system has a retractable cord that makes it safe for homes with small children or pets and creates a more pleasing cord-free look for your décor. Their motorized PowerView offers unique wireless window controls that can be pre-scheduled to open or close via a tablet, smartphone or remote control.

Are you looking for window treatment options to update your décor? Crawford’s Home Furnishings offers an excellent selection of Hunter Douglas products to meet your needs. We have been serving customers in central Illinois since 1972 with exceptional products and service. We offer free delivery and in-home consultations and are here to help you choose the best options for your personal design tastes.

Advantages of Luxury Vinyl Flooring

Today’s customers have more options than ever when it comes to home decorating and design. Flooring is no exception, and advancements over the years have improved the durability and appearance of materials such as vinyl. Today’s vinyl floors are high-performance, economic, and aesthetically-pleasing. Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and luxury vinyl plank (LVP),  mimic real stone, ceramic, and wood floors but are often easier to install and maintain.

If you love the elegance and luxury of natural flooring materials, but want a product that will provide lasting durability and value, LVT and LVP might be the perfect options for you. These products are quickly replacing ceramic and laminate floating floors. The improvements in vinyl style and design make it difficult to tell the difference between real stone, ceramic, or wood and vinyl by sight alone. Even the texturing process has come so far that they feel like the real thing, although there are some key differences:

  • LVT is softer and warmer than real stone or ceramic, making it more comfortable to stand on for long periods of time, walk on, and even more pleasant for pets.
  • LVT uses caulk-like grout which doesn’t require sealing, and can be changed more easily than a ceramic floor.
  • LVP is easier to clean than real hardwood, and does not scratch as easily.
  • Walking on LVP is less noisy than on laminate flooring.

Vinyl flooring makes a practical and attractive choice for high-traffic rooms due to its durability and water resistance, but with the improvements in its texture and appearance, many chose vinyl today for any room of the home.

For more information on LVT and LVP flooring, as well as to inquire about our selection, please call Crawford’s at (309) 647-3283 and ask to speak to John Turgeon. We can help you decide which flooring material and style fits your budget and personal preference.

Sleep Easy: Purchasing a New Mattress

Americans spend nearly a third of their lives sleeping.  Who wants to spend that much of their life uncomfortable?  Switching out an old, unsupportive mattress can do wonders for your back health and a good night’s sleep.

It Might Be Time to Buy a New Mattress If…

  • You regularly wake up stiff, numb, or achy.
  • You sleep better away from home.
  • Your mattress is visibly sagging or lumpy.

Hidden under covers and sheets and blankets, the state of your mattress might not be immediately obvious.  If you strip the bed and see visible wear and tear, that’s a clear answer on the state of your mattress!  Perhaps you sleep fine, but your partner is tossing and turning.  Not only is the mattress not their best fit, but an old mattress won’t reduce motion transfer the same as a fresh one.  The movement could be impacting your sleep without you realizing it.

It’s recommended to change your mattress every seven years. Crawford’s Home Furnishings offers a full line of mattress and foundations by Englander, Including orthopedic mattresses, memory foam, and mattresses for plus size sleepers.  At Crawford’s, we know a mattress is a big purchase.  To ensure that your investment is protected, follow the tips below!

Keeping Your New Mattress in Tip-Top Shape

  • Rotate your mattress regularly, especially in the beginning.  For a single-sided mattress, turn the mattress 180 degrees to rotate it from end to end.  For a double sided mattress, rotate it the same way and then flip it.  Do this every two weeks for the first three months, then once every 2-3 months.  This will balance out the usage of your mattress, extending its life.
  • Use a high-quality bed frame with strong center support.  This prevents sagging in the middle.
  • Use a mattress pad.  Remove stains with mild soap and cold water.  Avoid abrasive chemicals, which will damage the mattress.
  • Remind your kids that a mattress is not a trampoline!
